Result-Achievement Process

The process to reach a result may consist of different sets of actions or elements according to the approach given to it. Nevertheless, there is a core standard common to all of them: a series of steps that inevitably have to be done to reach the intended outcomes of any type.

Decisions – The phase before results is the decision-making, which, in turn, can also be considered as a process. In any case, decisions are made, whether they refer to obtaining something or to correcting a wrong decision made earlier. Hence, the essence of a sound decision lies on its critical ingredient, which is the logic.

It is quite usual to put the focus, when decisions are going to be made, in “what should be the phases of the process.” However, although it is certain that making a decision requires a robust sequence of well-established actions, there is something more to be taken into consideration.

If the same decision-making process is given to different teams to achieve the same goal, the result will have differences, sometimes of relevance, not to say the result itself may be different. That is because of the different intellectual contribution of the team members, which is the product of their respective individual logic. Therefore, to improve the quality of decisions, it is necessary to “produce” the most appropriate rationale.

Logic – Beyond its formal definition as “the way of thinking, reasonable and based on good judgment,” people’s rationale is the result of their deepest and most rooted beliefs, which can be named as criteria or principles.

In other words, although an individual may have an infinite amount of ideas and thoughts, the superficial ones are not taken into consideration per his/her logic when a decision is going to be made. Therefore, to produce sound decisions, it is necessary to know how both criteria and principles are made.

Criteria & Principles – The first element of the criterion[1] is an idea or knowledge. Nevertheless, it is perfectly admitted that having an idea is not enough to reach the very essence of it. Passing that idea from a shallow layer of our consciousness to a deeper one will require something else. The understanding of the whole meaning of an idea or concept requires putting it into a continued practice. So, if a person wants to understand that concept, he/she needs to convert it into a constant repetition, which is a behavior.

CONCLUSIONS

In consequence, if either an individual or an organization wants to accomplish something (e.g., build a new model of prosperity and competitiveness), first of all, it is necessary to identify the set of behaviors they need to adopt for that specific endeavor, particularly if it is a medium to long-term approach.

As in any other result, the logic required (and, as a result, the corresponding behaviors) to attain it, depends on the elements that have to be developed or managed. Thus, the next step is to determine the building blocks of the model for prestige-based sustainable competitiveness.
